I think it’s safe to say that the team that makes up Hutcheson & Co is one of best. I had been following Phil's "Americans Living in Canada" Facebook page for several years and enjoyed his blogs and advice. This year I had a completely unexpected US tax bill from the IRS (using another accountant). I emailed Phil in a panic and he got right back to me to ask a few key questions, explain what had happened and reassure me that the filing looked correct, although we could have done things differently over the years to lessen the impact. I was so impressed with Phil's quick replies and willingness to address and explain the issues. I'd recommend that anyone with cross-border tax situations consider going with Phil's firm, as we may be doing.
Cross-border tax issues are so involved and complicated — and have so many potential pitfalls — that we were starting to despair of ever being able to protect ourselves from unnecessary tax liability. Thankfully, we found Phil online. His vast expertise and genuine willingness to help are only superseded by his ability to explain complex tax issues in a clear and easy-to-understand manner; so clear even novices (like us) can understand them. If you're planning to move to Canada and keep your US citizenship, we can't imagine a better resource than Phil and his team of professionals.
Over the years, both Phil Hogan and Brent England have been of great assistance with my taxes, which are complex due to international reporting requirements and several other factors. Their service has always been professional, more than competent, and responsive to my particular needs. My contacts with their team have been positive.
