They’ve always been accommodating, beautiful building and great equipment. You can tell they care about students health here. Yes, there is delays in time but there is a large demand in this area, with patience in the wait time, the doctors are understanding and at times willing to help with anything above and beyond. I don’t understand all the low ratings, as I’ve been here several times since it first started since the old building and have always received good advice from the doctors and nurses have been very kind and understanding. Also reading the one review about coughing up blood, that is something you should go to the hospital for right away that’s a literal emergency. Unfortunately people (students) seem to be not understanding there’s a huge medical shortage and should be thankful that this is a viable option. They do the best they can. Don’t blame the receptionists for trying to remain their cool when they deal with who knows how many calls a day where people are frustrated with them when it’s not their fault.

The worst clinic in the city, this is saying much. The physicians are excellent but the desk staff are incompetent, inpetulant, and disposed to make mistakes and lie about them. Re-iterating: The doctors are fantastic it's just the administration staff that ruin the place.

One or two rude insolent receptionists' behavior ruin the reputation of the whole front desk reception area. Seems like the other receptionists and the doctors know but don't rectify the situation. And the rude ones continue playing their power games. It was a sad and unfortunate experience.

If you are looking to come to Uvic and are someone with a prescription or who has many health issues, might I suggest a different University? Victoria has no availability for family doctors, so as a student you are relying on the medical services provided by the University (you pay money for this and they make it very hard to opt out of if you choose to try do that - I didn't). For emergency appointments on day of, they are okay, as long as you set an alarm for exactly 8am you might get one of the few appointments before they run out. I was trying to find out how to go about getting my prescription re-signed by a doctor in Victoria (needed a physical check from a doctor in order to receive a refill), and for THREE WEEKS, I waited for a response on this, calling the Student Wellness Centre several times until finally getting a response 3 days before my prescription ran out (those 3 days were Saturday, Sunday, and Thanksgiving - so obviously I had literally no time to contact another clinic or receive my prescription). The amazing information they told me after that huge wait was that I could only receive my prescription using a pre-booked appointment (minimum 6 weeks out) so simply they refused to prescribe my medication for the next month and a half, and gave me literally zero time to work anything out, due to their failure to contact me earlier. One of their excuses being that since I had a family doctor elsewhere (15 hours away minimum) I did not need help - even though I require in person checks - my own doctor confirming this. I will mention the reception ladies I spoke to were lovely and I understand there is a shortage of clinicians and such but this is insane, so again if you might be needing prescriptions or much medical help, I wouldn't even risk it. I am currently waiting on receiving my own complete medical history to bring to a walk in clinic elsewhere but am having to go without my medication until then. I would be less eager to write this review had they not left me such little time (with me reaching out multiple times a week because I needed to know earlier) to try figure out what to do. For a paid service, it is absolutely appalling, and based on the other reviews on the page, not uncommon - I wish I had read them earlier before assuming we would have access to basic medical care :)

As the only resource avaliable to most UVic students, the wellness centre does a horrible job providing resources and health care to students. I have been unable to get appointments for months and have had to abruptly stop taking a high dose of two different medications due to lack of appointments, even just to fill a prescription. The doctor I saw there also left with no warning from the wellness center. I would not recommend coming here if you can avoid it, go to a walk in clinic.
