Captains David and Barbara (and mate Skye!) aboard the Peniel are great hosts and made for a perfect day on the water. Their knowledge of the area and its wildlife are absolutely top shelf, and their friendliness and enthusiasm in sharing it was boundless.
I felt far more like I was sailing with friends than like a paying guest; they made everything very comfortable, all while inspiring great confidence with their professionalism and skills on the boat. A unexpected bonus is that David is also a first-rate photographer, and the pictures they shared with me after the trip are like having a photo album of the day done by a professional photographer (the pictures in this review are from my phone)!

We had a lovely short sail with Captain David and Barbara on All Aboard Sailing. They have a wonderful wooden boat called the Peniel that was built in 1956. Ours was a last minute trip because when we reached out to David, he said there was a pod of orcas close to San Juan Island and it was a good time to go. Off we went and sure enough after seeing porpoises, and a seal or two, we had the opportunity to see four orcas very close to the boat. First at a distance, they turned up under and right next to the boat. We took and got wonderful photos to remember the experience. David and Barbara stayed in contact after the sail, answering questions about kayaking and the northern lights. We enjoyed our sail and recommend them highly.

We had an amazing and relaxing sail for half a day around the San Juan Islands. The Captain was keen to point out wild life and give us some history and background about our surroundings. Highly recommend.

BOOK THE TRIP NOW! Captain David is just a really cool guy and the whole experience was a dream. He’s a friendly man that loves what he does and goes the extra mile for his passengers. He took beautiful professional pics of what we saw and of my wife and I at no extra cost. He played a song on his trombone for the sun as it set. He has the coziest bean bags in the world for you to sit on while you sail the Salish sea looking for whales. Enough said? 😂
Seriously recommend this for a relaxing and beautiful time on the water.

This was such a great experience and reasonably priced for a private boat tour. Our girls (10 and 6 year olds) really enjoyed their first sailing trip, hanging in bean bags and exploring the boat. Captain David and Barbara were super friendly and knowledgeable about the area and local wildlife. Would definitely go out with them again when we are back in Friday Harbor!
