Quaint little store located near Oak Bay, very clearly catering inventory and goods to the types of folk that live in Oak Bay. Very friendly staff, seemed to have a lot of regulars who come in and chat. Super cool collection of vintage furniture and knickknacks, but upon driving down from Langford to see what was available and walking in, I knew I had spent more on gas than I would on anything in the store. TL;DR cute store but not much in it for anyone under 60

I was in there today and I’ve been in there many times before. Today, I wanted to see the glass case where they keep pens, pencils, inks, etc., however a customer was standing in front of the case so I waited. He and the male clerk /owner? shown in my photo we’re discussing real estate, so I hovered about looking at other items waiting for them to finish. Eventually, their voices became louder and then they tried outdoing each other citing their degrees. One had a Masters, but the other had a Ph.D., and on and on it went. I couldn’t believe how unprofessional this was becoming in full earshot of all the customers and staff. I asked one older female clerk if I could see a bottle of ink and as she and I bent down to look in the cabinet, neither man moved. You would think the male employee would have realized how unprofessional all of this was, but no. I finally put the ink down on the counter and left. As I walked through the door another lady asked if I’d heard the two men arguing, to which I replied, I think everyone in the shop did. She countered that if they both had such high degrees why would they be arguing over a conversation outdoing each other. I fully agreed with her. I’ve always found the staff in this place cold and unfriendly but today sealed the deal. Absolutely unacceptable behaviour. I won’t be back.

I am extremely disappointed with my family’s recent experience at Good Things. After we dropped off some of my late grandmother's china for consignment, my mom returned at the end of the 60-day consignment period only to be treated with utter disrespect by three female employees. We only got the name of one, which was Caitlin. These employees were unfriendly from the start. This is the experience with these 3 women staff only and not any other staff of this business. The agreement had been for us to have any unsold items returned after 60 days, but these three staff members insisted, to the point of rudeness and dismissiveness, that the items had already been picked up. They had not been, but since the staff could not find them in the back storage area, they insisted they had been picked up and repeatedly asked, "What do you want from us? What do you want us to do to make you happy?” My family wanted our china back, but they just kept insisting it had already been picked up and initialed for. The initials that they were referring to were actually for four plates that had not been accepted for consignment. These 3 staff were completely uninterested in listening to her, dismissing her and walking away, leaving her standing in the middle of the shop with other customers looking on. No offer of referring the matter to someone else, or looking again in the storage area. At no point was an apology provided by any of these three staff members, who had behaved so unprofessionally and insisted my mom had already claimed the box, when she had not. Having to request an apology really loses its appeal. My mom asked if there was not a record of the items dropped off, to which the staff replied, “Why would we record items we were not going to keep?” Perhaps in the future, more careful record-keeping is advised. After my uncle emailed and left a voicemail, Emma (another, polite staff member, who was looking to figure out what happened), informed us that our box of china was in fact discovered, still in its box, in the storage room—it had never been put out for sale. Emma admitted that an error had happened, and asked if we would like to consign again for another 60 days. It is not even the fact that a mistake was made by the store that is at issue for us —mistakes happen. The heart of the issue was the completely unprofessional way my mom was treated in the store, especially given that she had not already picked up the box. But the three employees only kept saying, “What do you want us to do?” My mom wanted them to listen when she said she did not pick up the box. No one offered to search further, look into it, or try to be helpful. Despite the already emotionally challenging task of consigning my grandmother’s belongings, these staff showed no kindness or professionalism. I am not surprised to see that there are several reviews stating that others have had similarly negative and unfriendly experiences at this store. This kind of treatment is unacceptable and left us deeply upset during an already difficult time. For not being believed, dismissed and what felt like being abandoned, and no apology from those who had been dismissive and accusatory that it was picked up. I sincerely hope no one else has to go through such a negative experience at this store.

Pretty nice kind seems like a higher end, clean thrift store. They wouldn’t let me take photos inside the store. They carry a range of dishes including vintage, mid century and older. They say their stock changes often so they don’t bother with images on the web site. But I mentioned to them it’s tough to know if I want to go there when all you see on the site is text. That’s annoying about this business. There really wasn’t much furniture for sale which is what I wanted. One of the frustrating things about consigning here is how arbitrarily they handle accepting items. I was dealing with one person who shoved away items as "we don't take those" and the other worker saying "we could take that." It was annoying because the web site has absolutely no guidelines such as "only porcelain china" whereas what I brought in was higher end vintage china. I would have sorted accordingly if they had these guidelines, however rough, posted online. I feel that my time is not respected when I have to box, truck, stand in line waiting for my appointment, go through their arbitrary take / reject process, get rushed though packing rejects, truck it back home where I'll list online. It doesn't take a lot of effort on their part to put the info up on the web site.
