Sad to see it closing. Always bought quality bread there, and staff was so friendly. Hard to compete with the Root Cellar. This forum makes it so easy for people to post petty grievances rather than be thankful for a well-run neighourhood food store.

I had never been to this store before. I love their hours. It is difficult to find anything open after 8pm. This store is open till 9pm. I was looking for a particular soya sauce and I found multiple ones. And the best was the customer service I received by the cashier

A phenomenal grocery store with exceptional service. Prices are high, but it’s worth the premium. They are very accommodating and extremely personable. The product is also fresh and well-maintained. Highly recommended!

On July 1st, a manager, who I think is share-holder Klaus Allerdissen's son, accused me of thievery. I was purchasing some mixed nuts, which I have done many times before, when the manager took the nuts from the counter and said something about them not being mixed nuts. I didn't understand what the issue was at first. I indicated that yes they are the mixed nuts. The manager indicated that he thought I had "made [my] own mix". This was untrue. I tend to shuffle cashews out of the scoop as I do not like cashews, but the hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, and brazil nuts were all from the one mixed nuts container. I purchase maybe 1/2 cup to 2/3 cup of nuts. There tends to be maybe 1 or 2 cashew halves per little scoop. I have done this in front of staff at Mother Nature's and other stores. I have done this in front of the owner of another store. No one has ever made an issue of it. Also, that didn't seem to be the issue. The manager was assuming that I had taken nuts from other bins and was lying about them being mixed nuts. That was completely untrue. The manager went to check the bins and gave me back the nuts, which I purchased. He was incredibly arrogant, assumptive, and rude. I called him a liar and demanded an apology. He refused. I continued to demand an apology for his insulting insinuation. He continued to refuse. When I left he followed me out of the store where I screamed at him that he is a liar. He and Klaus continued to insinuate falsehoods against me. The manager threatened to call the police. I have since contacted the police. The report agent I spoke with mentioned that the store likely has cameras which would show that I was telling the truth. I am owed an apology by the manager and by Klaus Allerdissen. I will continue to shop there if and when I feel like it. And if I am confronted again, I will continue to demand an apology. I was noticing another community member's, Neil Singroy's, review. I felt similarly, Neil. I felt as though I was definitely being met with prejudice - racism in your case, sexism combined with socioeconomic classism in my case, perhaps. And I agree with you, Neil: sarcastic thanks to the owner and manager son for bringing their European narrow-mindedness with them. Breath of fresh air to be profiled while grocery shopping.

Nice organic grocery in the heart of Cook Street village. Has a deli attached si one can get a choice of local meats and cheeses. One shouldn't have an issue finding what they need.
