Prices are getting crazy, like many other grocery stores. They have a great international foods section, but prepare to pay $7-10 for things like ponzu sauce and $4 for a UK Cherry Coke.
I bought the dark Russian rye bread and it was like eating foam. No flavour, terrible texture. I like to buy from local grocers, but I can find similar (and even the exact same) products at Superstore and Walmart for half the price. A 300 gram pack of shabu thin-sliced raw beef (frozen) is $17. In Vancouver, that same sized pack is $12 from PriceSmart. Sorry, Fairway, but that seems less than fair.

Great store staff works superb with customers. Too bad they have to have to deal mature customers bringing their grade 6 I.Q. Attitude when they shop at the store. Over the years I seen customers rudely mouthing off at staff on the floor. I clearly remember onetime it was over a sale sign on an item. He felt he was entitled to item because it as similar the item on sale.

It's the best place in the city to get a canned cheese and onion pie.
update: they now have vegetable balti as well
I also think it's the best overall selection of imported food in the city. Tons of Asian food as well as European. Despite this, no tonkatsu sauce.

One cashier on today.
I thought Thriftys was pricy- I hardly shop at Fairways and was surprised at the prices.
At the till I noticed an Aero bar- $2.99!!! Haha!
Went over to Thriftys afterwards- same bar is $1.99.
I won't shop here again.

Best prices in Victoria for a medium-sized grocery store. Excellent variety featuring an international section. Produce is always fresh and beats competitor prices.
