Firstly, I am a nurse. My experience with St. Charles was with a relative who was in respite for a few months. The place is fabulous. I have viewed St. Charles Manor from a healthcare worker perspective and have consistently tried to find areas of concern. This is what I have consistently seen for 3 months;
The place is spotlessly clean, the residents are spotlessly clean and well cared for, there are never any urine or feces odors (which is near impossible given the clientele). The staff are fabulous and are always actively engaging with residents, they have great senses of humour and appear to love working there. The residents are very calm and appear very happy. Constant stimulating activities for residents occur daily. The rooms are large and very homey. My relative would definitely stay if she were not returning home. I could go on and on. I wouldn’t hesitate to have a relative stay there, everyone from admin to the housekeepers, and healthcare providers were exceptional!

I've visited my relative here numerous times, during various hours and have complied a list of pros and cons.
Pros:
Staff at the reception are nice
The grounds are clean
free parking
Chickens
Outside areas for families to enjoy with their loved ones
Cons:
No air conditioners in residents rooms. One particularly hot day it was 29.5C in patient room.
Cleaning of rooms seems to be by request, floors are often sticky and dusty
Very expensive, over 200% of relative's income/month
Safety of residents is a concern as there is a known to staff violent patient who enters rooms and haresses or hurts others.
I hope my relative finds a new, safer and more affordable home soon. All elderly deserve respect and compassion as do their families navigating a new reality for their loved ones care.

When I went to visit my grandparents at the St. Charles I was more than impressed with the subtle hospitality that was provided. They have been residences in the independent living program for 8 months now and seem as happy as ever. But there is something to say about my personal experience that I just couldn't keep to myself. First of all, the food is absolutely delicious. Brunch & dinner really hit the spot; a perfect match for my palette! Secondly, the laundry detergent reminded me of back at home.. On the way there my sister spilt a whole tub of mayo on my favourite shirt, and to my surprise the crew at the Manor were more than happy to take care of it for me. I wish I could've stayed longer Grandma and Grandpa, hopefully next time we'll have time to check out the surrounding area. It seems beautiful, and I promise to leave the mayo at home. Say hi to Britt for me!
Till next time

I have read some of the other reviews and am truly surprised by the negative comments. Our experience has been fantastic. The staff is kind and considerate, the facility is clean, when I visit, staff is often coming in to check if we need anything, the place is clean and comfortable. The quality of the food is also excellent. It is not cheap, but if you have the means....it is worth it!

My dear cousin went into here for convalescent care after a hip surgery. She was only supposed to be here for a couple of weeks and then return to her condo, but somehow the people in here managed to get her held as incapable of caring for herself, etc. They put her through mental tests and tried their best to have her declared a danger to herself. The room was abhorrent, the care-workers were inattentive, and the place was one of the most depressing places I have ever been. My cousin's children and I had to work together to get her released from here. And we figured out why they wanted to hold her forever when we got the bill for her stay which suddenly became more than a month, they just wanted to drain her bank account. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
