My 93 year old father was charged $81.00 for a 3 pound bag of apples. He paid with his Interac card, and luckily, I was in line right behind him. I asked the teller how the total could be so high. He only bought a few things, which I assumed would cost around $35, but he was being charged $120. As soon as I asked, a tall, dark skinned, thin young man with curly black hair inserted himself into the situation, canceled the transaction, and had the teller put in the correct price for the apples. This felt very suspect to me. I shop there 4 or 5 times each week, and I've never seen anyone input a quantity of 15 by mistake, which is what was done, a bag of apples was sold as a very high quantity like 15 quantity rather than one. I asked very politely and warmly if it wasn't supposed to be free if there was an error under $10, since there is an actual sign right on the counter that says so and has a number to call if it's not honored. The thin, dark, curly haired guy said it doesn't apply to produce. I asked why that was the case, and he was very shady, abrupt, and dismissive... he said if its a human error related to quantity and not a sticker error it doesn't apply ... he had a really slippery answer for everything. I just said ok, thank you. I went to the help desk afterward and asked for a manager or his name. He refused to give it and then left and told an older woman a straight up lie, she came over and I explained what actually happened and she was looking at him perplexed. She gave me her name and a number to call head office. It's just not good enough to me that this type of thing can happen, where a very helpless elderly man can be taken advantage of and the manager sort of dismisses it and gives a number to call to deal with it myself. It was not my transaction, and I would never want to put my father through the process of trying to deal with head office. It's hard enough for me. I don't get paid for this. They have cameras at the store, and they have a debit card which was charged $120 and then canceled. I'm very angry at Thrifty's for having management simply pass the buck and not really care. The dark haired man with curly hair was also very rude and speaking over both myself and the manager woman.. she actually had to tell him many times to "just stop" I plan on following this up, not with a customer service number, but with a police report. Thrifty's workers have always been more than helpful, but this person (who I assume was defrauding the elderly) was over the top rude and outright defensive for no reason... he acted like someone with lots to hide... because anyone else would just be friendly and helpful. I will post here what ends up happening, but please keep your guard up at this store. They have way too many staff, and half of them are young, sketchy-looking student types, and it's possible a few are working together. The teller in this case was very much like the male was... I've been an insurance fraud investigator for 34 years, I'm good at telling when people are communicating with their eyes, or working together and these two were.

Organized shop lifters like crazy in this store. Sobeys would rather protect thieves and criminals than protect their own employees. Would be nice to see this store stop organized theft and increase their workers wages instead of allowing scum steal without consequences. Shame shame shame.
